Westinsure Devon Premier Cup third round
Tavistock 5
Newton Abbot 1
THE Lambs went through to the next round when they turned in a brilliant second half display to destroy the opposition.
It was a different story in the first half with Tavistock going into the break a goal down after Chris Hooper latched onto a through-ball to slot past Andy Meeds from the edge of the area.
A strong half time lecture from joint manager Chris Abbott seemed to do the trick as the Lambs came out determined to get back into the game.
Paul Adcock and Simon Parnell went close before the Lambs got back on level terms on the hour. Steve Daymond?s darting run into the area saw his first attempt blocked. John Gosling followed up with a lob that was cleared off the line with Daymond having another two attempts, the referee awarding a goal after the ball had crossed the line before being cleared.
In the next ten minutes the home side added two goals as Dave Hallett cut in from the left to curl a 25-yard shot over the keeper and high into the net for his first of the season. It was followed by Gosling?s 20-yard chip over the keeper to put the Lambs 3-1 up.
The Lambs had their tails up and there was no stopping them as the visitors caved in in the final ten minutes.
Gosling got his second, cutting into the area to slot home from close range, and sub John Hadjiyianni headed home James Cole?s cross to put the finishing touch on a fine second half display.
At half-time the Lambs looked dead and buried but if ever there was a game of two halves this was it. Tavistock will now look to progress further in the cup with a home tie against Appledore on Saturday November 22.
