Saltash 2

Tavistock 2

THE Lambs were still not at full strength and with Lee Beer injured Rob Hawkins took his place in the starting line up with the P & D's manager Pete Gibson on the bench.

The home side took the game to the Lambs who did not settle until after 20 minutes but found themselves a goal down on 25 as Michael Preston fired in a shot that Andy Meeds could only parry into the path of Paul Sidey to crash home from close range.

The Lambs were back on level terms ten minutes later when from a Nathan Blamey corner Andy Parnowski headed back at the far post. The ball came out to Mark Wall at the edge of the area to strike first time and it took a deflection off a defender to loop up and over a stranded James Dungey.

Wall was unlucky at the start of the second half not to grab his second when his spectacular volley hit the back of the stanchion before Jeff Babb gave the Lambs the lead. He picked the ball up just inside the Saltash half and left two defenders on the ground before chipping Dungey from 18 yards for the goal of the game.

The Lambs lived dangerously with Preston hitting a post, Babb clearing off the line and Meeds getting in a tangle with two awkward back passes before the Ashes got their equaliser with 15 minutes remaining.

The Ashes almost stole all three points in the last minute but again the woodwork came to the Lambs' rescue with Preston's shot bouncing off the crossbar.

LAMB Nick Monk was the star, getting four of the five goals. The side got off to the perfect start when in the third minute Paul Cowling saw his effort pushed away for a corner and from it Pete Gibson headed goalwards for Monk to turn on the line and smash home.

The Lambs doubled their lead on 15 minutes. Cowling sent in a cross and it found James Yates who did well to let in Steve Daymond to provide Monk to get his second from close range.

The Lambs attacked at will. Cowling was unlucky to get to a Monk pass before he added the Lambs' third on the half hour. Adam Brimacombe's free kick deep into the Plymstock defence was only partially cleared and Cowling blasted it back for it to deflect and go into the top corner.

Cowling hit the bar before Monk got his hat-trick just prior to the interval. Brimacombe's through-ball found him out wide to shoot low past the keeper.

Four-nil up and cruising but the Lambs were not content with that as they increased their goal tally within three minutes of the second half. Cowling turned the Plymstock defence inside out before finding Monk on the edge of the area to slot home for his fourth and the Lambs' fifth.

The Lambs' defence were outstanding and keeper Craig Howells was rarely troubled.

After the game a delighted Pete Gibson senior said: 'A very good all round team performance with everyone on the top of their game and a great result after last week.'
