Pertemps Devon Premier Cup fourth round

Tavistock 4

Exeter Civil Service 0

A MINUTE'S silence was observed before this match, in memory of former Lambs player Charlie Leach who died last Thursday.

The Lambs welcomed back Jason Carwardine to the line-up but were missing Andy Parnowski through suspension. The Lambs took the initiative after 12 minutes when Graeme Kirkup intercepted a through-ball, Mark Wall picked up his clearance to send Steve Shaw away to cross for Craig Hodge to head across goal. The ball went loose in the area and Hodge reacted the quickest to volley home from 12 yards.

James Cole brought out the best from visiting keeper Neil Coombs with a rasping drive and Hodge went close. Williams had a chance to put the visitors level when he beat the offside trap to get to the by-line but his poor cross was cut out by Meeds.

Hodge, who had moved up front just five games ago, was causing all sorts of problems for the Civil defence and Dunstan was booked when he pulled the striker back when clear on goal. From the resultant free kick they paid the ultimate price as Nathan Blamey's cross was headed back across goal by Hodge for Rob Hawkins to volley home.

Tavistock did not ease up the pressure at the start of the second half with Hawkins hitting the side netting after a good run from Blamey. Babb, Shaw and Hodge all went close with efforts before Meeds came racing off his line to clear. Despite calls from the Exeter bench for him handling outside the area play continued for Carwardine to run deep into the Civil defence to supply Hodge to slot home his second and the Lambs' third.

With 15 minutes remaining the home side completed the scoring when substitute Steve Daymond's first touch was to send Hodge clear to stab the ball home.

The Lambs play host to Devon League side Alphington in the quarter-finals at Langsford Park in January.
