Carlsberg South Western League
Tavistock 5
Penryn 3
THE Lambs welcomed back Andy Meeds from suspension, John Hadjiyianni from a lengthy holiday and took sweet revenge from their opponents who defeated them in the first game of the season.
Penryn started well but were rocked after ten minutes as Paul Adcock latched onto a lobbed ball over the defence by captain Nathan Blamey who clipped it over the back-pedalling keeper Andy Avery.
Five minutes later they should have been two up by Tom Barwell, after a defensive slip let him in. But with a one-on-one with the keeper he blasted the ball straight at him and the chance went.
Blamey set up a chance for the Lambs as he broke from defence to cross low into the area but no one could add the final touch. Barwell had two more good chances to increase the Lambs? lead from Simon Parnell crosses then became provider for James Steer to shoot wide as the half ended.
Penryn started the better in the second half as Shane D?Cotta got through but Meeds did just enough to force him wide and the chance went.
But the goals started to flow for the Lambs. Sean Cann, Parnell and Barwell got the ball forward for the latter to pass up to Adcock on the edge of the area to turn and stride forward and shoot under Avery from a tight angle.
Three minutes later from a Lambs corner Barwell?s cross came straight back to him and he sent it back in for Parnell to come rushing in and firmly head past Avery.
Another three minutes and it was four for the home side. Steer?s cross was met by Hadjiyianni but he could only head it straight at the keeper who fumbled it and there was Adcock to complete his hat-trick with a simple tap-in.
Dave Brimacombe replaced the injured Hadjiyianni, who received a knock in his goal effort, and with his first touch allowed Jamie Thirkle in, but he could only lob both keeper and crossbar.
The Lambs bounced back yet again. A bad pass across the back of his defence by Thirkle allowed the quick thinking Adcock to steal in and round the keeper to roll the ball into an empty net.
With just 15 minutes remaining, the Lambs went to pieces in the next seven minutes and conceded three goals.
From the kick off they regained possession immediately for Dave Wilkinson to let fly from 30 yards to send the ball over Meeds and with the Lambs still eager to attack they got caught out again with two quick counter attacks as Wilkinson was on hand to get his hat-trick.
It was a spirited comeback from the visitors and a poor defensive display from the Lambs in the latter stages. But time ran out for Penryn and the Lambs celebrated their highest scoring result of the season, their first victory in 2004 and three more points that keep them above a the mid-table and a chance for a fifth or sixth finish.
