Carlsberg South Western League Cup Quarter Final Tavistock 1 Truro City 2 THE Lambs cup exploits for this season finally came to an end on Monday as they bowed out after a keenly contested game. With the battle for re-election in the league they were looking to extend their season with a cup run with a victory that would have seen them in a Semi final in March but it was not to be. The first half was a fairly even affair and the Lambs had their chances to go ahead. John Gosling almost surprised keeper Dave Moody in the 10th minute when his cross come shot skidded off the greasy surface with Moody slipping but the ball hit the side netting. Will Westlake got just clear of the Truro defence but shot wide after a quarter of an hour. Richard Young had the ball in the Lambs? net five minutes before the interval but was offside and Dean Harris saw his shot deflected for a corner as it went just wide of Andy Meeds? post. The visitors came out firing at the start of the second half and Meeds did well to block substitute Luke Wort as he skipped through the Lambs? defence and minutes later again blocked an effort from Young. But he was helpless after 55 minutes when Robin Teagle collected the ball on the half way line in front of the grandstand to cut in and get to the by-line to cross low for Steve Rowson to slot home from close range. The Lambs? heads did not drop and after a period of pressure it finally told when they got back on level terms with 15 minutes remaining. A quick throw in by Daniel Fadida allowed Matt Martin to cross, Paul Adcock put in a challenge and the ball fell loose for James to steer the ball home. As time ticked down it looked like it was going to be extra time but with seven minutes remaining the visitors got the all important second goal. Greg Butcher?s free kick from out wide was knocked back across the goal and there appeared to be confusion as to who scored with Chris Davey claiming the final touch with the unfortunate Duncan Duthie getting some of the blame for an own goal. The Lambs kept pushing for the second equaliser and almost got it deep into injury time when, from a corner, Sean Cann headed on but Fadida?s flick went straight to the keeper. Another disappointing day for the Lambs but the fight to stave off re-election continues.
