THE Chestnut Appeal is a charity that supports men with prostate cancer and their families across Devon and Cornwall.

The charity is holding its fourth annual sponsored walk around Burrator Reservoir on Sunday, September 12, starting at 10am.  It is a flat, four mile walk suitable for people of all ages and abilities and ends with a snack and a drink.

David Squires from the Chestnut Appeal said: We normally get around 100 walkers and as this is our tenth year we are looking to make this our biggest walk to date.

The Chestnut Appeal has recently been able to purchase two headlight systems which are already in use at Derriford Hospital and at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.  This equipment, which is the first of their kind to be used in the UK, will help train the next generation of prostate cancer surgeons and also make surgery quicker and easier.  And at a cost of £35,000 this type of funding is not cheap.

The charitys latest project is to fund a second specialist prostate cancer nurse at Derriford.  This new nurse is a contact point for all patients and relatives with queries, treatments and ongoing care.

David said: The walk is a really friendly and relaxed occasion and our end of walk snacks have in the past proved a huge success.  Its also a great way to help raise funds and awareness.

The walk is open to all and dogs are very welcome.

Registration is just £10 which includes a t-shirt and the end of walk snack.
