THE ladies of Okehampton Golf Club played the Warren Crocus Medal, a county qualifying competition with the winners playing the finals at Dawlish Warren. Eighteen ladies took part and the bronze winner was Lorna McCurrach, with an excellent net 69. Second was Chris Stevens, net 70 and third was Jane Warren net 71. The silver winner was Dawn Phillott net 72, second Trish Vick net 73 and third was Lin Atkinson net 75. Saturday saw 142 members turn out for a four ball better ball stableford, supporting the very popular professional Ashley Moon. In the first place with a magnificent 47 points were Peter Grimley and Malcolm Hooper, second on countback Clive Yeo and Kevin Harding 45 points, third Alan Mann and Kane Wills, fourth Lloyd Overy and Rachel Spry, fifth with 44 points back 9 countback Barry May and Gary Hodgson, sixth David Hardwood and Colin Cornwall. Seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth places were all decided on countback with each team scoring 43 points. They were John Tolley and Paul Rattenbury, Ken Peckham and Roger Slee, Mike King and Paul Fewings and Chris Pike and Russel Dibble. The ?twos? sweep produced 21 twos . Monday May 8 saw the veterans? section playing their monthly qualifying medal. The winner with an excellent 61, bringing his handicap down to 12, was Owen Howe, second also bringing down his handicap to 18, with net 62, was David Jones. Third, net 66 was Gordon Parker and fourth with net 67 was John Tolley. On Sunday the club played Churston in the annual competition for the George Clements Shield. Okehampton had an excellent day with the captain of the day Brian Willcocks and his partner Paul Rattenbury winning by one hole. Richard Johnson and Stuart Lewis won, one up; Martin Haggett and Bob Simpson won one up, then Gerry Carpanni and Mike Charlesworth also won by one hole, and finally to make it a clean sweep Bill Swainson and Mike Hutchinson won 3-2.
