THE Devon Ladies County Championship was played on Yelverton Golf Course on April 25, 26 and 27.
Ladies from across the county played an 18 hole medal competition using handicaps.
The sixteen ladies with the top best scores, and these included Yelverton?s Laura Eastwood and Gillie Jarvis, qualified to play in the Championship scratch match-play knockout competition. Laura and Gillie met in the quarter-finals, which Laura managed to win. On Sunday Laura played in the finals against Emma Frain from Churston Golf Club with Laura ?chipping in? on the eleventh hole for an eagle 3. As they teed off on the eighteenth hole, Laura was ?one up?. On the green, Emma sank a long putt to play the hole in par 4; Laura then sank a short but highly pressurised putt, to halve the hole and to win the championship.
On April 17 the Ladies of Yelverton Golf Club played their April stableford competition, in combination with a competition for the Dame Hannah Rogers Salver.
The winner of the Silver Division was Penny Hunter with 37 pts; runner up Marie Deeny, 36 pts and third June Smalley, 34 pts. Pat Taylor, who also won the Dame Hannah Rogers Salver, with 42 pts, won the Bronze Division; runner up Lilias Strachan, 34 pts and third Elaine George, 34 pts.
On April 14 the Sheelagh Creasy team played the first match of the season at home against Tavistock. Yelverton won by four matches to three.
On April 15 Pat Gove won the Dartmouth Bronze Open. This was a stableford competition and Pat scored 38 points on this very difficult course.
Also on April 15 Maggie Flanagan and Dawn Bolt, Yelverton?s representatives in the Willes Little county foursomes competition, won their first round match against Okehampton.
Annette Sweeney and Kay Creaven qualified to play in the Daily Mail foursome competition. They won their first round match against Elfordleigh Golf Club, but on April 27 at Dartmouth Golf Club they lost their second round match on the sixteenth hole.
