Kelly College 1st X1 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .1

ON Saturday, September 6, Tavistock Ladies 1st XI played their first friendly against Kelly College 1st XI.

With new members to the team it was vital that Tavistock worked as a team and passed the ball. Steff Mills and Emma White worked extremely hard through the midfield creating numerous chances for the forward play of Tavistock to score easy goals.

The Kelly girls defended well and looked to put Tavistock under pressure when the ball was brought into their defending ?D?. Sue Gawman struck some excellent balls across into the ?D? which Kelly seemed to deflect out. Not to be deterred by this Gawman stepped the pace up a gear and an early call from her resulted in her scoring the first goal of the match.

Seconds later Lisa Butler was pushing up through midfield and along with Sandra Collar were able to block the ball from the 25yd line. New player to the team, Jo Gaspar, saw an easy opportunity and struck the ball past the keeper.

Tavistock heads were high yet the team were still not playing to the standard that they are worthy of and as a result of this Babs Horton and Fiona Dunn had to start to break down the Kelly girls who made some strong attacks in the defensive 25yd area.

Louise Bott made some good runs down the wing and proved that despite having an absence from the team, her fitness and skill level were still of a high level.

She was able to cross the ball into the ?D? and Sue Murrin slipped a well executed ball past the keeper.

Murrin scored her second goal of the match from a good ball in from White taking the score at half-time to 4-0 to Tavistock.

The second half saw a much more focussed Kelly team and new goalkeeper, Debbie Taylor, made an excellent save for the Tavistock team.

New player, Claire Jackson, was starting to find her ?niche? on the pitch and despite being heavily marked by the opoosition, she was able to feed the ball up to a running Gawman on the wing.

Through a break in the defence Kelly scored their first goal.

All the forwards were battling hard to score more goals but Murrin had the final say by scoring a strategic last two goals of the match. The final score was 6-1 to Tavistock.
