Tavistock Ladies Seconds 7

Plymouth 2

AFTER a run of bad luck and disappointing games the ladies' second hockey team was ready for a win. The hard work at the beginning paid off soon as an early goal by Sue Gawman put Tavistock one up.

Sue Gawman gained a hat trick and a superb goal from Sarah Creates left the team 4-1 up at the end of the first half, with excellent saves from Roz Watts.

With four goals behind them the increasing chance of victory gave Tavistock the incentive to continue the skills and good strikes for the rest of the game. This showed in their play as even the backs — Judy Ricketts, Helen Kelly and Michele Butler — were able to progress to the halfway line without threat of attacks on the D.

Goals came during the second half from Gawman, Judy Smallacombe and Lisa Butler. Plymouth pulled another back, but Tavistock's energetic play proved to be that of a winning team.

Thanks were expressed to Michele Butler and Martin Glanville, who umpired for Plymouth, for stepping in at the last minute and to Ian Richardson for umpiring.
