ALTHOUGH results were mixed for Tavistock Tennis Club in the league last week overall, there were good wins for the ladies' C and juniors' A teams.
With the exception of the men's A team match, postponed due to rain, all planned matches were completed.

B team won 5-4 away against Ivybridge C. Phil Harbottle and Owen Locker v their 1st pair; 6-4, 6-3: v 2nd pair; 6-3, 6-1. Chris Poole and Alan Bruce v their 1st pair; 2-6, 6-3, 2-6: v 2nd pair; 4-6, 4-6.
C team lost 0 - 8 away against Plymstock B. Richard Read and John Jackson v their 1st pair; 2-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 4-6, 2-6. James Marshall - playing in his first match for the club - and Tony Finnigan v their 1st pair; 0-6, 1-6: v 2nd pair; 1-6, 1-6.
D team won 7-3 away against Torpoint B. David Isaac and Bill Sparks v their 1st pair; 7-6, 6-3: v 2nd pair; 5-7, 6-0, 6-3. Steve Fletcher and John Warne v their 1st pair; 4-6, 6-4, 3-6: v 2nd pair; 6-2, 6-3.
Ladies A team lost 4-5 at home against Plymstock A. Annie Jefferies and Di Kersey v their 1st pair; 2-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 6-2. Tric Locker and Sue Hughes v their 1st pair; 2-6, 3-6: v 2nd pair; 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
B team lost 0-8 at home against St Budeaux B where there were three tie-breaks that went against Tavistock. Sue Parsons and Tric Mowle v their 1st pair; 6-7, 3-6: v 2nd pair 6-7, 4-6. Olga Rogers and Nikki Hoar v their 1st pair; 2-6, 4-6: v 2nd pair; 6-7, 3-6.
C team won 8-0 at home against China Fleet. Anne Bruce and Sue Whitman v their 1st pair; 7-5, 6-0: v 2nd pair; 6-0, 6-0. Babette Jackson and Claudine Sparks v their 1st pair; 6-4, 6-2: v 2nd pair; 6-4, 6-0.
Juniors: A team won 8-1 away against Saltash, a good win for Tavistock which puts the A team top of division 1. Tom Bruce v their 1st player; 6-2, 6-3. Will Simpson and Russell Rice v their 1st pair; 6-4, 6-1. Will v their 2nd player; 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Tom and Russell v their 2nd pair; 6-3, 6-2.

C team lost 1-8 at home against Hill Lane B where it was unfortunate that Tavistock could not field a full team. First singles and doubles matches forfeited. D team lost 0-8 at home against Whiteford Rd who fielded a strong team. Ashley Rice v their 1st player; 3-6, 1-6.
