THE Tavistock Edge Festival, which took place for the first time in July, was deemed to be so successful organisers have planned to host it again in 2016.

It will be kicking off this month with the popular ‘Knitting on the Edge’ section of the festival.

As part of last year’s festival, ‘Knitting on the Edge’ was such a runaway hit with so many people that it is going to start again this month, to be ready with a range of whacky, woolly contributions for July. It is also hoping to support Tavistock’s Britain in Bloom in August.

A spokesperson for Knitting on the Edge said: ‘All knitters and crocheters are welcome to join in, the more the merrier and the more that can be done.

‘There is no better time to knit and crochet than in the winter, so Knitting on the Edge will once again start with a “Wool Amnesty” from January, to gather as much wool as possible to recycle into visual fun and entertainment come July. Any wool, any type, any colour, any quantity can be taken to Yarns of Tavistock on West Street or to Knitting Korner on Pepper St.’

There will also be an open meeting of anyone interested in joining in Knitting on the Edge at the Tavy Club on Thursday, January 21 at 7.30. Everyone is welcome whether you were involved last year, were just aware of it but not involved or whether this is new to you and you want to find out what it is all about.

The spokesperson added: ‘There are already some great ideas for things that could be done this year and all new ideas are welcome. It is planned to again involve the shops in town by creating woolly window displays and any other ideas where the end product then has another useful life — like all the blankets that were knitted last year — or which contribute to the town are very, very welcome.’
