ALMOST two thirds of all domestic fires happen because of cooking, warned Devon Fire and Rescue Service last week. The service said the kitchen is the single most dangerous place in the home as people become easily distracted and leave appliances unattended; for example, when residents are called away from the cooker and forget to take a pan off the heat. Devon Fire and Rescue Service warn the public not to be distracted while cooking and not to cook if affected by alcohol or prescription drugs.
