A CAKE recipe by a Milton Abbot woman has been given national recognition after it was made on television by celebrity chef Anthony Worrall-Thompson. Sonia Watson's Swiss carrot cake was one of the winning entries in the 'People's Cookbook' on the UKTV Food channel and will now feature in a book of the same name by Mr Worrall-Thompson and another top TV chef, Paul Rankin. The programme's star chefs and all the film crew spent a day with Mrs Watson and her family at her home last autumn, who all appeared in the programme when it was screened on February 22. Mrs Watson, whose parents are Swiss, said it was the kirsch in the carrot cake that gave it the edge. 'I'm not a chef and I don't think Peter Gorton has to worry but I enjoy cooking and baking,' she said. 'This recipe is a bit different so I think that is why it was chosen.' The Milton Abbot resident was encouraged by her friends to take part — she does not have a television at home and had never heard of Anthony Worrall-Thompson prior to this. Mrs Watson and her family went to a friend's house to watch the show and she said the whole experience had been 'very interesting'.
