A CONTENTIOUS plan to create a kiosk in a small storage building at Burrator Dam has been thrown out by planners.

The application by South West Water sought to change the building, which is currently used for electrical equipment storage and a mess room for South West Water staff, into a retail kiosk providing hot and cold snacks.

At a Dartmoor National Park Authority planning meeting last Friday, committee members voted to refuse the application, despite it being recommended for approval, as they felt it would over commercialise the area.

The application ran alongside a separate application by South West Water to bring the disused toilet block, located on the opposite side of the road, back into use.

At the same meeting, planners voted to approve the application for the alterations to the toilet block.
