Carlsberg South West Peninsula division one East
Sidmouth Town 0
Okehampton Argyle 1
SIDMOUTH, sitting top of the division with a 100% record, tasted defeat for the first time this season as Argyle put in another hard working performance.
This was a close affair played on a bone hard pitch, which made it difficult for either side to create many clear cut chances.
Okehampton were missing Will Hawking and Robbie Clarke and injured Chris Wills.
Argyle were the better side in the first half and made more of the running, but Sidmouth made things difficult for the midfield by double marking Luke Alden.
However, Argyle showed that they have other creative possibilities and a minute before half-time, they took the lead. A well flighted cross from Steve Madge was flicked on by Adam Mortimer and Steve Kinsey headed home from six yards.
Sidmouth came more into the game after the break and Argyle had to defend solidly. Left back Ben Williams had to come off with an injury, but substitute Ricky Wooldridge, normally a right sided midfield player, filled the role admirably.
For the last 15 minutes, Sidmouth really put the visitors under pressure as they sought to save their unbeaten record, but they ran into an Okehampton defence that was giving nothing away.
Centre-half Matt Mortimer was a tower of strength throughout and was Argyle man of the match.
This was a great win and sees Okehampton move to third in the table.
