A MEAL fit for kings was served up at Tavistock Community Church in Pixon Lane as King?s welcomed guests to the church for a thank-you meal for those who have helped the church?s News and Africa Project.

Around 60 guests were welcomed to the evening by West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett, and his wife, Billie.

Mr Burnett commended the work done by so few which achieved such results for the poor across Africa.

Mayor of Tavistock Marjorie Corner was the guest of honour with her mayoress Debbie Vidak.

Former mayors of Tavistock, councillors, business people and church leaders also attended the meal at the church on Saturday, February 1.

Cllr Corner commented on the enormous growth in work in Africa, which could bring both excitement and danger.

Around the room, there was a pictorial display of the work of King?s News and Africa, as well as the Gilead Foundation and Ian Robinson in Bosnia.

King?s work in Africa began in 1997 following a chance meeting with a Rwandan pastor, Sadiki, and has spread to include providing guidance and teaching to communities in the Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.

Pastor Colin Bond said many of the guests expressed surprise at the remarkable advances being made in Africa, saying they never realised so much was being done by Tavistock.

Mr Bond said the idea of the evening had been to say thank you to the people of Tavistock, but guests had pressed donations upon church members, amounting to £105, to continue the church?s valuable work.
