I AM at a loss to understand Ann Keelan's reasoning for wanting her rubbish collected every week, rather than fortnightly (Letters, September 2).
The new scheme will recycle the vast majority of our waste, leaving only a small amount needing to be collected for landfill.
Maybe Ms Keelan cannot be bothered to incorporate a few extra minutes each day into her routine in order to separate out the recyclable bits?
Or perhaps her desire is a symptom of the nefarious thinking all too prevalent in our decadent, modern, western society?
All too often when considering whether or not to have something, we think only of it's cash cost and do not stop to consider whether or not we actually need it.
This 'I want it because I can have it and it isn't too expensive' attitude has got our world into the environmental mess it is in today.
What world shall we bequeath to our children, grandchildren and their children and grandchildren if we do not reform our ways?
I too would like to offer WDBC chief executive David Incoll, as well as the whole team at WDBC, an envelope. This one would contain a letter of thanks for the sterling effort they have put into working so hard in order to make it so easy for us all to do our bit.

THE kerbside recycling and refuse collection service assumes a ready access to the kerbside that not all of us — those in their eighties, disabled and caring for a severly disabled wife especially — do not possess.
Our kerbside is a steep climb from the Taw to the road and for a long time now I have relied on kind neighbours weekly to carry up our modestly filled black sack, while newspaper, cardboard, tins, bottles, garden waste, etc, clutter our limited space awaiting transport to the Recycling Depot by our children who occasionally visit from far away.
Now, short of a dispensation for us to put a black sack out weekly, we shall fortnightly inflict a less modestly filled one on neighbours newly burdened with additonal containers to carry up and recover!
