KELLY COLLEGE swimmers shone at the second weekend of the ASA SWR Age Group Championships.
12 year old Robbie Nielsen flew the flag for Kelly winning two gold medals in the 200m backstroke (2.30.00) and 200m freestyle (2.16.39). Robbie secured a national qualifying time in the backstroke event and just missed out on his 200m freestyle.
Three other Kelly swimmers produced outstanding performances to qualify for the National Age Group Championships to be held in Sheffield during July. These included Dan Gillard (13), who won a bronze medal in the final of the 100m breaststroke, beating a personal best time by more than eight seconds and secure his entry into the nationals.
In the 100m backstroke Georgia Jones (12) produced a personal best time (1.11.92) to qualify along with team mate Millie Murdoch from the weekend before.
In the 100m breaststroke Brittaney O'Reilly (11) secured her position for the nationals adding the 100m (1.25.92) to her already gained 200m time.
Kelly swimming's age group records reflect the many International performers that have developed over the years through the swimming programme. The high level of swimming produced over this weekend saw six new Kelly age group records set by:
Victoria Moore (11) won a bronze medal in the 100m fly (1.16.60), and established a new record in the 400m individual medley (5.56.75) with a personal best improvement of 42.91 seconds.
Georgia Jones (12) set a new record in the 100m backstroke (71.92); Tom Brew (10) won a bronze medal and set a new record in the 100m fly (1.25.47); Ben Staig (11) won bronze and set a new record in the 100m breaststroke (1.28.23) and also in the 200m individual medley (2.43.76).
Other medallists were Tom Brew in the 100m back and Ben Staig in the 200m freestyle.
Other personal best times were produced by Chloe Barrow (12), Christy Gold (12), Will Luckham-Down(12), and Millie Murdoch(12).
Kelly swimmers came away from the weekend competition with two gold medals, six bronze medals, six new Kelly age group records and 56 personal best times out of 61 swims.
