THERE was success for Kelly College swim squad at last week?s four-day National Age Groups Swimming Championships held at the Ponds Forge Centre in Sheffield. Cameron Brodie from the squad won the overall swimmer of the championships? award in the 14-year-old boys. In two of the most exciting races of the competion, Cameron won gold in the 100m fly (58.98) and silver, separated by a mere 400ths of a second in the 200m fly (2.09.06) setting new Junior Scottish records in both events. Cameron won the overall award by tallying the most amount of points in five events which included the 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m and 200m fly and also the 400m intermediate where he produced a personal best time by some ten seconds. Other outstanding swims were produced by Kelly?s 13-year-old Katheryn Stacey in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle who equalled her personal best times and also 14-year-old Lawrence Oxborough who swam in both the 100m and 200m freestyle. The six day national youth and open championships will now follow on from the age group championships where a further 15 Kelly swimmers will be in action over the week.
