KELLY College swimmers took part in a new competition bringing together entrants from the South West, South East and London, into a zonal championship. The first event was hosted by London region at Crystal Palace.

The competition will be hosted by other regions in turn. Kelly College Swim squad sent six swimmers to and came back with one gold, one silver and four bronze medals — breaking three Kelly age group records and recorded 12 personal best performances.

Lucy Sanderson (aged 16) took the gold medal in the 200m fly in 2 mins 19.97 seconds, which was a personal best and a new Kelly 16 year age group record. Lucy also took bronze in the 100m fly.

Ben Walsh (17) collected silver in the 1,500m freestyle with a personal best time of 17.05.11 and also achieved a bronze in the 400m freestyle. Blaine Small (17) did a personal best time in the 400m individual medley, collecting a bronze and a Kelly 17 year-age group record, which had stood for nine years. Blaine had a personal best in the 200m individual medley and also broke this Kelly age group record as well. Charlie Bayliss (17) won a bronze in the 200m fly with a personal best time of 2.12.50. Charlie did another pb in the 100m fly where he was seventh. Mark Sammut (17) had three personal best times in the 200m backstroke where he was fourth, fifth in the 100m backstroke and ninth in 100m freestyle. Erin Walsh at only 14 years of age, swam well to 17th in the 200m backstroke and 34th in the 100m breaststroke.

Kelly College swimmers will be competing in the Devon Championships during February and March in Plymouth and Tiverton.
