Kelly College played host to the U13 and U15 Devon Sevens finals, for all the runners up and winners of the four Devon regions. Kelly College qualified having won the West region earlier in the term. In wet conditions both teams played good sevens with the U15s starting well by defeating the South Devon champions, Torquay 17-12. They then lost narrowly to Plymouth College 19-7 and Queen Elizabeth College 19-5, playing some excellent sevens in trying conditions. The U13 seven, however, proceeded to the final in style, by beating Kingsbridge 29 -0, drawing 5-5 with St. Peter's High School, Exeter and beating St Michael's, Tawstock 19-7 to move into the semi- final as group winners against the huge Churston Ferrers Grammar School side. They then played flowing, skilful rugby to destroy Churston 32-5, reaching the final against the Colyton Grammar side, who were unbeaten all year at this level. In the final Ryan Nichol crossed in the corner for Kelly just before the break to take a 5 -0 lead. In the second half Kelly were under great pressure again from the quicker and stronger Colyton side but the defence held out. Good passing by the Kelly boys fed Justin Southam on the wing to score a try from his own half to seal the game and for the Kelly College U13s to become the 2008 Devon champions. l 'Mud glorious mud' are for the triumphant Kelly U13s boys pictured left.
