Duchy Premier Gunnislake 2 Pensilva 1 MANAGER Andy Southcott took charge for this opening fixture although soon he is to hand over the management responsibility to the recently appointed partnership of Tim May and Garfield Ewing. Family and work commitments have forced Andy to step down after two and a half years in charge. Gunnislake were the better team throughout a first half in which they had more of the ball and did the greater share of the attacking as they played some attractive football. But, Pens were always dangerous on the break and from this source took the lead midway through the half. Gunni levelled matters before the interval. Keeper Andy Brenton?s swift throw out to debutante Sam Picking enabled the latter to find Stef Kelly wide on the right. Kelly surged forward and unleashed a powerful 25 yard strike into the far bottom corner of the goal. The second half saw Pens have more impact although the hosts still had the better of proceedings. Gunnislake scored the only and second decisive goal with some 20 minutes remaining. A Stef Kelly effort was only palmed out by the otherwise excellent Pens keeper for younger brother Jarryd to pounce and score into the unguarded goal. St Dominic 3 Gunnislake 0 THREE up by half time the hosts recorded a comfortable win against their near neighbours. Gunnislake had their moments in an opening 45 minutes that, whilst Saints had the better of things and scored once, was well contested. But two early goals after the break disappointingly left the visitors with seemingly no reply. This Saturday Gunnislake entertain champions of two seasons ago Polperro. Kick off is at 2pm. Two hours later and Gunnislake?s newly formed reserve team play their first competitive game when they take on Stoke Climsland. Joint managers Joe Pulley and Steve Gaggini take charge for this match which is also to be played at Gunnislake playing field.
