Mannamead 2 0

Tavistock 4

TAVISTOCK ladies? hockey team opened with some early breaks due to the strong midfield play of Susannah Harland, Kath Collar, Steph Mills and Sue Hornby.

Sue Gawman and Emma Bowden worked well on the right and Laura Armstrong hit some excellent balls across the circle, but Tavistock did not seem able to connect with any of them.

Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and Becky Hutton battled to keep the ball in play. She pushed the ball past the keeper from a good strike in from Armstrong. Babs Horton and Fiona Dunn blocked out any attack before it even got into the D and Sandra Collar worked tirelessly in picking up spare players.

With increased determination, especially from Hutton, Hornby and Jill Court, Tavistock pushed harder in the second half.

One major attack came through into Tavistock?s own half and a penalty stroke was awarded to the opposition. The pressure was on goalkeeper, Rebecca Creasy, but she made an excellent save and prevented Mannamead from equalising.

This lifted Tavistock?s game and Mills, Collar and Dunn made some good triangular passes which allowed Gawman to drive the ball into the D and score the second.

Hornby, Hutton and Harland improved their game to make the attacks strong on both sides of the pitch. Jill Court and Laura Armstrong, centre forwards, always had the knack of losing their players and becoming available in the D.

Hutton scored her second goal from a rebound ball. The final goal came from Bowden. A good ball in from Mills and early call allowed Bowden to slot the ball past the keeper.

Player of the match: Rebecca Creasy.

This week Tavistock play their last league match before Christmas at home to Totnes with a 12.30pm push back.
