WITH the start-up of the farmers' market in Holsworthy and the setting up of one in Tavistock, there is now a real need to keep the momentum going.

Farming, we all know in Torridge and West Devon, is in a mess, but with new ideas and a determination in the future the use of markets to promote 'the best in the West' can only help to highlight the benefits of locally produced food.

All towns and large villages should look at starting up a market dedicated to local produce. Some villages do have long established markets, and some have markets that have become rather like bring and buy sales. so why not use them for tourists as well?

'So the future is in our hands; farmers' markets are needed now, so ask your town, "how?"
