SEVENTY seven competitors competed in the qualifying round on the first day of the Tavistock Golf Club scratch and handicap championships.
Out of the seven scratch players who qualified for the second day Mark Ingram had an excellent score of gross 71 to become the 2010 scratch champion.
Fifteen handicap players also qualified but with a winning nett 69, Mike Coles took the handicap champion title.
Both players have represented the club on many occasions. Mark has played in the Palairet team and Mike was a very successful past club captain.
Belinda McSherry and Nicky Gawman were the finalists in the ladies' club championship, a knockout competition played off scratch.
Belinda took the honours when she won her fifth ladies' club championship.
There was a record number entries for the one club and a putter competition and the scoring was very close. The winner with 32 points was David Thomas.
On countback was Paul Stratton with 31 pts from Andy Down and Darren Hall and with 29 pts John Thewlis, also on countback, from Dick Spackman, Tommy Rawlinson and Ian Nye.
In the John Morris Trophy and medal heading division one was Richard Golding with nett 65, second was Rod Hillman with nett 67 and in third place David Bryant with nett 69.
In division two Mike Henderson had nett 66 with John Hayward on nett 70 and Barry Tillyer with nett 71.
Alan Roach in division three had a nett 65, second Andy Down nett 73, third Chris Henderson nett 74. Alan Roach was winner of the trophy on countback over the Back 9 from Richard Golding.
In the Alice Rose bowl and stableford Kate Butler was top of division one with 42 pts, second was Shirley Trevena with 38 pts and third, with 37 pts, was Hilary Picton.
In division two first Gail Reed 36 pts, second Norma Thewlis 35 pts, third Marilyn Allen 35 pts. In division three Jenny Kay had 42 pts with Valerie Jarman and Sue Bailey both with 34 pts.
Kate Butler was winner of the Alice Rose Bowl. In the Truscott Pittman, a foursomes competition played with drawn partners, the winners were Liz Lyndon and Sue Bailey 34 pts and runners up were Dawn Phillott and Sally Timpson with 33 pts.
