LEWDOWN from the E division entertained Stoke Gabriel from the C division in the Devon Corinthian Cup.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Stoke Gabriel batted well to amass 165 for 4 in their 16 overs. Andy Vernon was the only Lewdown bowler to acquit himself well.

With the quickly worsening light, Lewdown took the decision to have a go from the start, and threw everything into the opening overs. After 2 overs, Brenden Worth and Richard Hayden had put on 35 runs.

When both openers departed, Charlie Hughes continued the onslaught with a rapid 37, before becoming the first of 2 run outs, taking on the opposition fielders.

This dismissal proved costly. While Henry Murray, Jack Skuse, Angus Murray and Dave Ball continued in the run chase, Lewdown were defeated by just 6 runs, finishing on 161 for 6 wickets, in an excellent game.

l Lewdown travelled to Plymouth side Roborough in the E division west league game on

Saturday.

Batting first, Roborough were in trouble at 114 for 6 after 31 overs. But, as Lewdown are quickly finding, most teams in the Devon League can bat in depth, and this was the case with Roborough, finally being bowled out for 192.

Angus Murray with 4 for 34 and Greg Sleep 3 for 46, were Lewdown?s effective bowlers.

In response, Lewdown started badly, losing 2 wickets for 20 runs. The ever reliable Ollie Brown and Dean Summersby steadied the situation with 28 and 41 respectively, and at 113 for 4, with 15 overs to go, were in prime position. Unfortunately, some good bowling, poor shot selection and particular bad luck with the awful wicket, resulted in Lewdown being all out in the penultimate over for 176. Angus Murray batted valiantly at the death, trying to win the game with a knock of 24.

Roborough 19 points, beat Lewdown 9 points by 16 runs.

Next match home versus Woodland Fort.
