I WOULD just like to say how annoyed I was today (Friday), I put my rubbish out for collection, I sorted it into recycling and normal household waste. In the bin, quite clearly, I put an old fluorescent tube to be taken away. I didn?t try to disguise it or break it down. After FOSCA had gone I went out to bring in the empty bins to find that the fluorescent tube was still there with a note stuck to it saying, ?Uunable to collect, this is DIY rubbish. If you have any queries contact this telephone number?. I did contact the number and the woman at the end of the phone said due to health and safety this item was not suitable for collection, but if I want to I can take it down to the rubbish tip How absurd, we are supposed to be trying to be ?Green?. I purchase these tubes because they are supposed to last longer and are more environmentally-friendly, but when they then blow, I have to take a ten-mile round trip to the tip to dispose of it. I don?t normally complain about things but this really has infuriated me. If I had broken it down into small pieces, and put it in with the rubbish, no-one would have been any the wiser and the problem would have gone away, but by doing things more fairly and safely, I now have to take a trip to the tip. Finally, I would say that because of where I live, the van that comes to us is not a big truck with the rotation wheels in the back, it is a small van, where this tube could have been laid down safely until their return to the depot.
