Tavistock U13s 58

Plymouth Argaum U13s 29

TAVISTOCK U13s welcomed Plymouth Argaum to their first match at home last Sunday. This was a last minute friendly, after the scheduled team were unable to play.

Sharing players to make up two 13-a-side teams made for an exciting and good humoured match.

Charlie and Braidy opened the Tavistock scoring early on, with two good tries converted by Matt. Terrence, the Argaum No 10 soon replied, outpacing the Tavistock defence to score in the corner. Tavistock dominated the rest of the first, with five more tries before half-time.

A powerful driving maul and early try in the second half encouraged Argaum, who made the best of the rebalanced team to score three more tries. Ollie, Harry and Joe made the most of the opportunity with three well worked corner tries.

Fierce defending from Argaum, and ambitious passing from Tavistock made this an entertaining spectacle despite the wet and muddy conditions.

Okehampton U11s 35

Exmouth U11s 7

THIS was another fine home win for the Oke 11s as they swept aside an Exmouth side in this home game played at North Tawton.

Making the most of the larger pitch, the home side took no time at all to get into their stride and opened the scoring after only two minutes. Leon Horne was the scorer as he made a clean break and crossed under the posts, Corey Holliday added the conversion.

Full back Joseph then returned a loose kick with interest, outpacing the visitors' defence to cross in the corner, Leon Horne converting. The last try of the first half went came from Ollie Ardon who flew over in the right corner before the break; Corey Holliday slotted the extras.

The visitors put up an improved performance in the second period, restricting Oke to just two more tries, while poaching one of their own. Greg Daniel scored both of Oke's tries, demonstrating fine strength and power in both cases. Joseph Stratton and Adam Wonnacott added a conversion apiece.

Tavistock RFC U9s 10

Ivybridge U9s 45

AS with Tavistock's last few games  a fierce midfield battle ensued. Strong tackling from both sides led to a big mauling game on a soft muddy pitch.

Despite Tavistock's determination the well drilled and disciplined Ivybridge team  moved the ball around with confidence and made great use of their width in attack. They  sucked the Tavistock defence in before striking wide to good effect to  run in five tries in the first half. Tavistock responded with some strong forward work from Harry Richardson Nick Buckeridge-Hobbs, Cameron Georgel and Noah Berridge attempting to break down the solid defence. Oscar Campbell scooping up a loose ball from a breakdown to power his way over the line for the single Tavistock try of the first half.

The second half  carried on in the same vein with the Tavistock backs desperately trying to break through. Despite some determined defence and good use of the touchline by the Tavistock backs - Jack Lancashire, Jack Baker, Bryn Bourton, James Kenyon and Dan Pett - Ivybridge continued to find width to score a further four tries.

A superb solo effort from scrum half Harry Edwards gave Tavistock a well earned but almost consolation try.

Tavistock U8s 10 tries

Devonport S U8s 10 tries

ATTACKING play from Tavistock's Toby, Liam, Tom and Ted meant that the home side matched Devonport throughout the match. However at Tavistock's defence struggled against the bigger Devonport runners, especially a large Samoan player!

Tavistock's player of the match was Liam, who scored four tries; further tries came from Ted, Tom, Jack and Joe one and Toby (2). Although Devonport scored the equaliser in the final moment this was Tavistock's best performance of the year so far.

TAVISTOCK'S gallant nine players never gave up against a bigger and well drilled team in muddy conditions.

Ivybridge's scored some superb tries thanks to good support play. For Tavistock, William had his best game, well supported by Tom, Ted and Joe. Toby NS and Joeby also saw a lot of ball, with Toby NS scoring an excellent solo try. Tries for Tavistock were William (4) and as Joe, Jack, Tom and Liam.

Tavistock U7s 3 tries

Devonport S U7s 7 tries

THIS was a competitive game between two good teams.  Tavistock made the early running, scoring first and going close on two further occassions.  Devonport fought back and at half time lead 3-2.

Tavistock changed the whole team at half time and Devonport took advantage while Tavistock took time to settle.  While the score would indicate a much greater difference between the sides Tavistock had a number of tries disallowed due to tags falling off.  Tries were scored for Tavistock by Jonathan Griffiths (2) and Billy Wilkinson.

Devonport S U7s 3 tries

THE two teams then played a develop-ment match.  Tavistock took an early lead and ended up winning 7-3.  Devonport had some good young players and scored some good tries.  Tries for Tavistock were scored by Ollie, Dylan, Billy W, Billy, Jarred and Matthew.

Overall Tavistock continue to develop and the second half of the season offers much promise.

Tavistock U7s 7

Ivybridge U7s 12

IVYBRIDGE took the lead early on with some good supporting play.  Tavistock took a little while to get going but as the first half went on scored good individual tries.  At half time Ivybridge were 8-3 up.

In the second half Tavistock pressed much harder, their tagging was more accurate and they were far hungrier when the ball was loose.  Tries from Ollie, Billy, Joshua and Jared kept the pressure on Ivybridge.  Good defending by Calum, Christopher, Tommy, Ollie and Seb helped to keep the game much tighter.

Ivybridge also did well winning the development match, but with Tavistock having a lot of new players there remains much promise for the rest of the season.
