YELVERTON retained the West Devon Junior League finals title played at Holsworthy Golf Club by beating Bigbury 3-2 in the final.

Jonathan Thurston won 4 and 2; Mark Northey won 7 and 5; Tom Squire won at the 20th, holing a testing 7-foot putt to win the title for Yelverton; Chris Chapman and Ross Northey lost 3 and 2; Leighton Bartlett and Shaun Northey lost 3 and 1.

The final was a closer contest that the semi-final match against Staddon Heights, where Yelverton won 5-0.

In that match, Jonathan Thurston (Devon Junior captain) beat Andrew Bravant (highly rated ) 4 and 3; Mark Northey beat Jamie Easton-Johns 2 up (Mark won on the last hole after being dormy 6 up); Tom Squire won 2 and 1; Chris Chapman and Ross Northey won 4 and 3; Leighton Bartlett and Shaun Northey won 3 and 2.

Dartmouth beat Staddon Heights 4-1 in the 3rd and 4th playoffs, Bigbury beat Dartmouth 4-1 to reach the final.

Yelverton's junior organiser and club professional Tim McSherry congratulated his team on their great win. 'The team spirit they've got is brilliant. They're all now pumped up for the Southern Finals at Enmore Park, Somerset in October. Last year they finished fifth, but this year I feel they will do better.

Junior team captain and England u16 player Laura Eastwood could not play on Finals day as she was winning the Weetabix u16 Age Group championships at Patshull Park, Shropshire.
