A TWENTY-two year old man from the Netherlands was arrested last week after his lorry overturned outside Okehampton Police Station.

The Dutch-registered lorry overturned at the junction between Exeter Road and Barton Road, last Wednesday morning, causing traffic disruption for several hours.

At around 7.45am, the large articulated lorry with trailer, carrying a large quantity of sawdust bound for Snowflake Devon on the North Road industrial estate, overturned as it was turning into Barton Road from Exeter Road.

Fortunately, no-one was injured, although damage was caused to a car parked in Barton Road and to the wall of an adjoining property. The power supply in the vicinity was also briefly disrupted following the incident.

The road was closed for several hours while the vehicle was removed, reopening at around 4.30pm.

Police examined the vehicle and the driver?s documents and records and he was detained in Exeter for questioning.

He was later charged with dangerous driving and offences relating to the vehicle?s tachograph and braking systems.

The Dutch national appeared before Exeter Magistrates? Court last week and was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined a total of £1,500.
