WEST DEVON artist Julia Barton's latest exhibition at the Salar Gallery in Hatherleigh has been largely inspired by ancient buildings in the French countryside. The solo exhibition entitled 'Material Evidence' is about tracks and traces in a flower meadow on her Devon farm as well as those found in old buildings in the Dordognes. Julia, who lives near Northlew, has exhibited regularly at the Salar Gallery in recent years, but this latest exhibition features new work completed during the last 12 months. Julia said: 'I go to France at least twice a year, most recently in September. I take my sketch book with me and sketch on site to give me something to work from. I also take little bits of earth pigment back with me.' She said this work was about looking at evidence of man's traces left behind when the buildings have been abandoned or demolished. The exhibition until November 25.
