THE Abbeyfield Tavistock Society celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with a strawberry cream tea and the planting of a tree in the gardens of Drake Lodge in Plymouth Road.

The tree was planted by the patron, Jean Burleigh-Taylor and David Rees (pictured), the house administrator who is to retire later this year after 25 years of service.

The event, held during the national Abbeyfield Week in mid-June was well attended by residents, family and friends.

The society is a charity providing companionship and a sense of community for older people. It caters for residents over the age of 60 where a home from home atmosphere is provided, with the emphasis on high standards of support.

The summer coffee morning run by the residents, committee and volunteers will be held at Drake Lodge on Friday, August 17 at 10.30am with many attractive stalls.
