Bodmin Trophies Duchy division 3

Lamerton 2

Tregony 0

LAMERTON restarted their league fixtures with a home game against Tregony, having had no game for the previous two weeks. The strong wind meant the ball had to be kept on the deck and Lamerton adapted to the conditions better than their visitors.

With Paul Cowling and Dan Healy lively up front, chances were created regularly but the run of the ball deserted the home side.

Tony Jones was making space down the left wing and came closest, hitting the foot of the far post.

Just when it looked like a blank half-time score Jones took an inswinging corner from the right wing that curled in at the far post.

Tregony, with the wind at their backs, started the second half strongly but the back four did not allow their forwards any clear-cut chances. Simon Breyley and Andy Coe held the centre of the defence firm and as the half went on Ian Collacott and Graham Cole found time to push up and assist the attack. Steve Gibbings, playing his first match for almost three months, looked as if he had never been away.

Lamerton made the game safe in the last quarter when Healy escaped his marker to clip a left foot shot past the keeper, rounding off a good display from the home side.

Before the game, players and officials of both teams observed a minute?s silence in memory of Lifton Duchy League manager and local referee Sid Ball who died the previous week. Sid will be greatly missed in West Devon and East Cornwall football circles. Condolences go to his family.

This Saturday home to Callington in the division 3 Cup. Kick-off 2pm.
