THE Devon County Lady Vets Association held their annual Flitch Competition at Tavistock Golf Club in perfect golfing conditions —warm sunshine and a course that is in superb condition. The competition, established in 1974, is for married couples and this year attracted 100 pairs representing 16 clubs from throughout the county.
For the first time for many years Tavistock swept the board with John and Norma Thewlis coming first with 42 points. Close behind were Ken and June Kendall with 41 pts on countback from Paul and Patty Congo — both couples from Tavistock. 15 prizes were presented by the DCLVA captain Liz Turner.
The juniors had an excellent 2 and 1 win over Bigbury at Elfordleigh in the Basil Steer Trophy. They are now in the quarter finals. Junior Bridie Sampson continued her winning streak with a nett 60 to win the H L Smith Trophy. Second with nett 68 was Mike Henderson with Emma Greening on nett 71. Bridie also won the Simon Gilder Trophy with a nett 64 and in second place, with nett 69, was Sam Jessop and third was Sam Brockington with nett 71.
