THE work of former Tavistock Times photographer, the late Jim Thorington will be the subject of an exhibition by the Tavistock and District History Society during August.

Seventy pictures from an extensive collection of some 30,000 photos made available by Jim?s wife Shirley will be on display in Tavistock?s Court Gate.

The history society has relocated from beneath the town offices in Drake Road to two rooms in the Court Gate, which will be its permanent base in the future.

Press officer for the society Ken Cook said there would be an official opening of the new premises in due course but the exhibition would precede it.

?Jim was a great local character and a prolific photographer who took tens of thousands of photographs during his career,? he said. ?The exhibition will cover a vast variety of topics from sport to politics and local events.?

The doors will open on Friday August 15 between 10am and 4pm and every Friday and Saturday from then on during August.

The exhibition may be extended throughout September depending on

demand.
