GOLDEN girl Jill Howe is celebrating success this week having successfully completed a prestigious jewellery valuation course.

After 25 years in the jewellery trade, Whitchurch lady Jill decided last year to attempt the National Association of Goldsmiths? (NAG) internationally acclaimed JET valuation course.

The course, which took Jill a full year to complete, is the first of its kind in the country and covers the fundamental methods of jewellery valuation including calculations and appraisal, antique jewellery, consumer law, precious metal valuation and pricing.

In recognition of her work on the course, and having successfully completed a workshop and final exam, Jill has been awarded NAG?s coveted Professional Jewellers JET Valuation Diploma and can use the letters PJ Val Dip after her name.

She said: ?The diploma is one of the few recognised valuation credentials in the industry.

?The course has taught me the real disciplines of appraising: to ensure that values are both supportable and accurate.

?I am delighted to have earned my diploma, and look forward to putting my skills to good use.?

She now plans to go into partnership with her father, Robert Griffin, a retired jeweller who lives in Tavistock and spent half a century in the trade. Together, they plan to offer an ?at home? valuation service for insurance or probate with all appraisals undertaken in the clients? homes, thereby removing the need for sending items away.
