AROUND 150 people crowded into Fairplace Church to listen to one of the greatest exponents of jazz trombone in this country, Don Lusher, recently.

This accomplished musician has played with many of the jazz greats including Ted Heath, Digby Fairweather and Ronnie Verrel as well as Frank Sinatra.

On this occasion he was accompanied by the rhythm section of the Okehampton College Big Band and weaved some musical magic with songs like 'Days of Wine and Roses' and his own composition 'DL Blues'.

On either side of Don Lusher's sets, the College Big Band provided a lively collection of swing standards and some funkier fusion-style jazz, ably and affably led by their musical director Paul Smith.

The event was organised by Okehampton Argyle Football Club to celebrate the club's 75th anniversary.
