SOUTH Tawton?s new parish councillor is Jane White who polled more than a third of the vote to win the by-election held last Thursday.

Mrs White beat six other candidates to fill the vacant seat on the parish council, following the death of Cllr Arthur Madders earlier this year.

The result was as follows: Carol Coombs, 55 votes; Brian Jeffery, 49; Joan Lethbridge, 11; Kenneth Shaddick, 7; Tracey Smith, 35; Jane White, 117 and Bryan Woolland, 44.
