YOUNG Royal British Legion Standard Bearer James Stacey from Halwill Junction will be joining war veterans to represent the Okehampton and district branch of the legion at a grand rally marking the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Several hundred members of the legion will be on parade at the rally at the Bath and West Showground, along with many of the legion standards from all south west counties, including Okehampton's, borne by 18-year-old James.

The Royal British Legion in the South West of England is staging the grand rally at the Bath and West Show, Shepton Mallet on Saturday, June 5. This rally, to be inspected by Lord King, coincides almost exactly with the 60th anniversary of the landings in Normandy on D-Day, 1944.

Many veterans will be on parade, marching to the music of the Wellington Band of the King's Division.

A coach has been ordered to take the Okehampton contingent, leaving Fore Street at 9.30am on Saturday 5 June.

Members of the Okehampton branch of the legion wishing to join the coach to take part in this rally, should call the branch secretary on 01837 840757 by not later than Monday, April 26. Allocation of seats will be on a first-come first-served basis.
