CHRISTMAS competitions at Okehampton Golf Club are coming into play. The ladies played their turkey trot on Wednesday and as the weather stayed dry most of the morning entries were good and the scores close. Though Lorna Rolfe was the only player to play to par, winning with a good 36 points, second, on countback on the last six, was Cherry James with 34. Third, also with 34 and countback on the last nine, was Kath Mansell and fourth was Lin Atkinson, again 34. The men played their turkey trot on Saturday and though the early starters had rain, the weather cleared and the scores were good. Winning division 1 with 42 points was Mark Wonnacott. In second with 39, better back nine, was Terry Steer. Third, also 39, Nick Hobbs, and fourth Graham Moysey with 38 countback on the last three. Division 2 was won by Ian Wilson 43, second Brian Kelly 41, third Paul Douglas 40, better back nine, and fourth Mike Allen 40. In division 3 Pete Nolan had the best score of the day, winning with a wonderful 45. Second was Matthew Milford 40, back three, Ian Priestley third with 40 and fourth Dan Curtis 38. On Sunday the fourball better ball turkey trot was played. Again with the weather mostly dry scoring was good, and in first place was Paul Rattenbury and Paul Skidmore with 43 points, second Martin Egmore and Bill Tanner with 41 and third Richard Reid and John Haslem with 40.
