WE WILL all be pleased to hear that Peninsula Milk has been given a time extension to obtain EU grant funding.

However, your headline (January 3) 'More time to net Euro cash' tends to suggest that there is some big crock of gold that they bountifully hand out to good causes.

This match funding is given only to projects that the EU agrees to in the first place and is always subject to all sorts of conditions that assist in promoting the EU — flying their wretched flag is obligatory.

The money that is then given (usually at least six months later than promised) is from EU funds that have accrued from the contributions by the members, of which Britain pays a ridiculously high proportion.

Hopefully, sooner than later, the British people will realise that instead of pouring nearly £1million per hour into the EU and then getting all excited when we are given back a handful of our own petty cash it would make a lot more sense to keep it all in the first place.

Assuming we had a government capable of deciding where the most urgent priorities were, the money could be allocated immediately to enable work to proceed and without the bulk of our cash being wasted on endless madcap schemes around the rest of the EU.
