The campaign by Yorkie Malone (Times, July 5) to reduce the potential for road accidents in Lamerton would carry significantly more credibility if he and his fellow residents examined, in a less hysterical mood, their own contribution to potential road accidents.
I drive through Lamerton frequently, sometimes up to six times per day, and I am always amazed by the irresponsible and thoughtless parking of some residents' cars, particularly at the approaches to corners at the Tavistock end of the village. There indeed are accidents waiting to happen. I hope that Mr Malone is not one of the offenders.
Without condoning in any way the exceeding of the speed limit, it is arguable that the irresponsible parkers pose a greater threat than the irresponsible speeders do.
