YOUNG explorers in West Devon are invited to come along to Lydford Gorge on bank holiday Sunday, May 2, to get kitted out with an explorer kit and go off in the orchard and woods to do some exploring.

All explorers are asked to report to the marquee at the main entrance at Lydford Gorge.

The first task will be to get an explorer kit in order.  They can make a pair of binoculars and camouflage crown and collect an explorer notepad anytime after 12noon but before 3pm, before setting off.

Along the way youngsters can build a giant bird's nest, a Gubbin's hideout, play giant pick-up sticks and collect things for the Gorge's nature table.

They can also decorate a tree with natural jewellery and explore the wood piles and grass for mini beasts.

On completion of the tasks all explorers will get a certificate and a wooden badge to take home.

All the events are free although staff may ask for a small returnable deposit for some items to use, such as bug pots.  Normal admission charges to the property apply.
