TAVISTOCK Olympic pentathlete Kate Allenby was celebrating this week as she secured a fantastic consolation prize in lieu of her Athens defeat.
The 30 year old, who plans to retire this year, pulled out all the stops to secure the gold medal at the Modern Pentathlon World Cup finals in Germany.
Kate beat the Olympic gold medallist, Hungarian Zsuzsanna Voros, into third place with a lead of more than 30 points, while the Olympic silver medallist had to be content with the same again as she trailed home 19 points behind the Tavistokian.
Kate said: ?The whole event just went really well and, unlike at the Olympics, everything fell into place.
?I even had a nice horse ? he was a bit cheeky and refused one fence, but that was all!?
Kate is retiring to a new career in teaching from September, but is thrilled to be going out on a high note, saying: ?It?s a consolation prize for not getting the gold in Athens ? but what a consolation prize to get!?
