I WOULD be most grateful if, through your newspaper, you would allow me to thank all the artists, audiences, musicians and other contributors from Tavistock, as well as from further afield, who helped make the eighth Tavistock Music and Arts Festival such an outstanding success in musical, artistic, dance, theatrical and literary terms — as well as a most enjoyable and uplifting event. 2010 will be remembered as a vintage year for both the town but also for the neighbouring area — in particular, Lamerton, Merrivale, Lydford, Meavy and Princetown.
Especially, I would like to pay tribute to all the Tavistock and other local businesses that sponsored the event so generously and constructively. The majority of events were again 'a sell out', which was very pleasing.
The 2011 festival will take place between April 27 and May 2, so I ask our patrons to please pencil those dates into your diaries now. Because of the late Easter, it is likely to be shorter than this year's event, but it is hoped to be able to include all the successful elements of this year — we hope to achieve this by, perhaps, holding some of the activities as pre-festival events in late March and April.
Further, I would be very happy to hear from any organisations and individuals who would like to be involved next year (both the Tavonians and the Big Noise Choir were particularly welcome this year), either as performers and contributors, or as sponsors, fundraisers, steering group members or other helpers. Please contact me via the details below, if interested.
