HOT on the heels of celebrating Accreditation Status from a national organisation, Okehampton Volunteer Bureau is planning a busy promotional week this summer.
National Volunteer Week is held between June 1 and 7 and is a celebration of the invaluable work carried out by volunteers in a wide variety of roles.
Karen Nolan, chief officer at the bureau, said: ?We will be presenting certificates to all our volunteers at a special lunch, hopefully attended by a local celebrity.
?We?ll be decorating a shop window in the town with balloons to promote the bureau and doing extra promotions on the opportunities available to people in the town.?
Karen said the bureau, based at the Ockment Centre, is thriving with a wide variety of volunteering roles on offer.
?We?ve got all sorts of things, from using your pets for therapy to becoming trustees on committees.
?There are a lot of local groups who really value help and we always have a variety of opportunities. There is something of interest for everyone, whatever your age ? we have volunteers on our books from the age of 18 to 80.?
Karen said volunteering not only helped other people, it could benefit the volunteers themselves, by learning new skills, meeting new people, getting involved in the community and improving their quality of life.
Okehampton Volunteer Bureau is open every week day from 10am until 2pm. For more information about the benefits you can gain from volunteering, or to find out how volunteers may be able to help your group or organisation, call 01837 55047 or e-mail
