MY wife and I are not residents of Tavistock but do our weekly shop in the town. Part of our town shop is in one or more of the supermarkets and they, and the other town shops, provide all our needs.
It is a puzzle to read that others find the facilities so poor that they must drive from Tavistock to supply their needs.
It seems, perhaps, that they owe their loyalty to a supermarket elsewhere and will not be satisfied until 'their' supermarket is on the Focus site.
Will those that drive to Tesco stop driving to Tesco if a Sainsbury takes over the site? Then perhaps we need every supermarket to have a store on the outskirts of Tavistock. That is the obvious endgame and the end of Tavistock as we know it.
We need on the site, not a supermarket but a facility not currently provided in Tavistock. Obviously, the site owners would be only too pleased to have supermarkets fighting over it but for them to suggest that this would keep money in the town is nonsense. All supermarket takings go to head office not the community that they are situated.
