WARD and Chowen report strong prices in their recent antiques and collectables sale held in their Tavistock Auction Rooms. The sale comprised a mixture of Victorian and Edwardian furniture, ceramics and a wide variety of interesting collectables, including medals, corsetry, jewellery and clocks. A lot of several boxes of Meccano, including Box No 6, realised £380, while a Hardy aluminium fly fishing reel realised £260, and a Majolica-style teapot made £320. Prices for furniture reflected an improving market with an early 20th century inlaid display cabinet making £400, and an Edwardian walnut bookcase making £500. A number of lots attracted much interest from bidders across the country, in particular an Irish oil painting by John Skelton, which, having created a three-way telephone bidding war, reached £1,400. Ward and Chowen are now accepting entries for their next antique sale, which will be on June 7. Pictured: Ward and Chowen staff Alex Clapham and Andrew Lean with the oil on board by John Skelton,
