A LEWDOWN man has won an award for his outstanding commitment to Neighbourhood Watch and crime prevention in his community and the region.
Colin Harris, who has been involved with neighbourhood watch for 12 years, collected his award sponsored by British Telecom and the National Neighbourhood Watch Association at a ceremony at the Tower of London last Wednesday.
Chairman of the Devon and Cornwall Community Watch Association, Colin impressed the judges with his extensive community efforts and contribution to preventing crime including working with the police, Farmwatch, Horsewatch, Devon and Cornwall Crimestoppers.
Through his work, Colin had helped to create a community that knew how to tackle issues, reducing the fear of crime as well as crime itself, said the judges.
He has organised conferences, talks on crime and neighbourhood watch and fundraised so these events could happen, instigated watch search groups, who can be contacted at a moment's notice to assist police in the search of missing persons and run crime prevention roadshows in conjunction with the police.
Judges said West Devon crime prevention officers were indebted to Colin for his valuable contribution.
